10 Best Video Games of All Time
When it comes to video games, “all time” is not a very long time at all. But, ever since video games started being produced, there were so many of them that left you breathless. Choosing the 10 best video games of all time is not an easy task. How can you compare the first Grand Theft Auto with Grand Theft Auto 5? Or, how can you compare an 8-bit side-scroller to the gleaming HD vistas of today? It is a hard task, but we have done our best. We wanted to give you a list of games we felt are most exemplary of the medium’s virtues. So, let’s get started.
- Tetris
Let’s start with the basics. When Tetris was first released, it blew everyone’s mind back then. People were obsessed with this mentally stimulating, yet addictive game. And, even though it was first released in 1984, the game is still popular nowadays. Thank you, Alexey Pajitnov, for making one of the best video games of all times.
- Halo 2
Many were so hyped for the Halo 2 release back in 2004. The marketing campaigns had fans crazy at the notion that Master Chief’s fight with the Covenant was coming back home. When Halo 2 was finally released, it definitely lived up to the hype and remains one of the greatest games ever.
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
All the puzzles in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time sometimes make it a bit repulsive to some. But, after you solve your first puzzle you will undoubtedly feel like a genius. Also, the fact that this game is not a classic hack-and-slash action game makes the fans want to play it even today.
- Super Metroid
Super Metroid was released back in 1994, and its minimalistic environmental storytelling has not been eclipsed yet. The game is simply brilliant and confident. It won’t make your life easier by explaining what each new area is about. It is up to you, whether you will figure it out on your own or simply ignore it. Super Metroid’s ability to make the players curious constantly (and then rewarding the curiosity) is what makes this game one of the 10 best video games of all time.
- Half-Life 2
Even though it was released more than a decade ago, Half-Life 2 is still ahead of many contemporary shooters. The game is more focused on utility than violence. It relies heavily on physics, improvisation, and the environment. These factors are what make Half-Life 2 one of the most unique and most interesting games there ever was.
- Super Mario 64
Super Mario 64 is a fan favorite that was released in 1996 and paved the way for real 3D video games and open world enviroments. During the game you play as Mario who must explore Princess peaches castle and rescue her from his nemesis Bowser. This game is revered as one of the best and most revolutionary titles of all time.
- Grand Theft Auto 5
We couldn’t afford to exclude Grand Theft Auto from our list. The latest release, GTA 5 was definitely the most spectacular one. Many like the stories from previous GTA games more, but you simply can’t ignore the fantastic designs, incredible heists, bouncing between the characters, and the seeming impossibility of Grand Theft Auto V’s depth.
- Call Duty : Modern Warfare
The Call of Duty Franchise has gained massive popularity over the years and has become probably the most plated first person shooter franchise ever.
